What is Wireless Number Portability?
Wireless Number Portability allows you to keep the same mobile, home and/or business phone number when switching service providers within the same local area.
Should I cancel my existing service before switching to TELUS?
No. Your number must remain active. Canceling your service before switching to TELUS will mean you won't be able to keep your number. Please note: You may be responsible to your old service provider for any contractual requirements and applicable charges, including an early termination fee, on your old account.
However, upon transferring your number to TELUS, service for your phone number with your current service provider will be automatically cancelled.
Will I need a new phone?
To join the TELUS network you will need a new phone. We have both regular cell phones and smartphones, like Blackberry's from $0.
Can I switch to TELUS before my old contract expires?
Yes you can, however you must be aware there may be service cancellation fees. Talk to your Tom Harris Cellular representative to work out if moving to TELUS now is your best option. We have many great personal and business plans that it might be just as cost effective to do it now.
How long will it take to port my number?
Wireless to wireless porting will generally take no more than a few hours. Landline to wireless ports generally should take no more than 4 days, but could take longer. Please note: Actual processing time may vary depending on the complexity of the port and your old service provider.
