The Android has arrived to TELUS and Tom Harris Cellular
No its not some crazy robotic experience, Android is a new operating system (the brains of the phone) that has us at Tom Harris Cellular giddy with excitement. Android is an operating system like the Blackberry or Apple OS with many appealing differences. Android arrived on the TELUS network with the HTC Hero and is now available with the Motorola Milestone and Motorola Backflip.
Android is the work of a group of companies who formed the Open Handset Alliance. There are 47 technology and mobile companies involved including Google, HTC, Mototola, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and LG. The Alliance was formed to accelerate innovation in mobile and offer consumers a richer and more open experience.
What is different about Android?
Traditional Operating System's have been closed to the development community to create new and exciting mobile applications. Android is different. Android was built on this premise from the ground up. It was built to be truly open. For example, an application can call upon any of the phone's core functionality such as making calls, sending text messages, or using the camera, allowing developers to create richer and more cohesive experiences for users. The Android Market, which is accessible through your TELUS android phone, has seen an explosion in new applications over the past few months and the majority of the applications are free!

HTC HERO
The HTC Hero is now available on the TELUS network. I encourage you to read this review, watch the video below and then visit a Tom Harris Cellular store for a real HTC Android experience.
When I first started using the HERO I was sidetracked for the first hour playing with the media options. With a dazzling array of personalisation settings, easy Wi-Fi set up, 5 mega pixel camera (yes, 5 mega pixels!) and Android market with thousands of free and paid apps, I had almost forgot it was a phone. As a phone, it works great. Easy to find controls, good sound quality and intuitive contact list layout. The most surprising feature of all was the stability of the Android operating system. I had no trouble opening and running multiple applications and toggling between applications was a breeze. There is also some nice integration features between Facebook, my contact list, email and GPS that I look forward to exploring.
